Art Macao is a five-month mega international art and cultural event that will be held from June to October this year, featuring a number of art exhibitions at various exhibition venues in Macao. The core event “Art Macao: International Art Exhibition” has invited international resorts and hotels in Macao to participate in the art fiesta. They will help bring incredible art pieces from both home and overseas to the city. Exhibiting art items are diverse, covering paintings, ceramics, sculptures, interactive installations and multimedia art. Art Macao will be showcasing the charm of contemporary visual arts with a diverse formula.
So how will the international resorts and hotels in Macao combine the coming art events with their unique venues to maximise the charm of artists’ creative pieces? What kind of role will the management of these resorts and hotels play in promoting art? In this issue, we have invited representatives from Melco Resorts & Entertainment Ltd., MGM, Sands China Ltd. and Wynn Macau Ltd. to share with us their take on these interesting questions.
Wynn Macau Ltd.: Wynn—Garden of Earthly Delights
Wynn will be exhibiting “Wynn─Garden of Earthly Delights”, an exhibition inspired by Hieronymus Bosch’s stunning masterpiece–Garden of Earthly Delights–which he painted during the time of the Renaissance. His striking painting illustrates the beauty and sumptuousness of life, depicting contemporary art’s imagination about society and the world. At the exhibition, several contemporary and modern art pieces will be exhibited in Macao for the very first time. They will be displayed to the public in the forms of painting, installation and digital exhibition, showcasing the charm of modern and contemporary art from a fresh perspective. Garden of Earthly Delights will be a great opportunity for the public to appreciate diverse masterpieces from world-class artists around the world.
“The artists Wynn has invited are all renowned artists in the art world. For example we have Herb Alpert, Robert Indiana, MAD Architects, Refik Anadol, Jennifer Steinkamp, Sam Francis, Edoardo Tresoldi, etc.,” Linda Chen, Wynn Macau’s Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director, said. “All the art pieces are carefully selected by our team to ensure the diversity and uniqueness of the exhibition.”
For instance, Robert Indiana, renowned for his pop art, is bringing his best-known art piece LOVE to Wynn Palace. The giant red sculpture has been a symbol of free love and peace since the 1960s in the U.S., a symbolic art that reminds people of the importance of love and emotions. There is also an art piece from Herb Alpert. Herb Alpert is a passionate artist who is not only an abstract expressionist painter and sculptor but also a Grammy-winning musician, renowned for his jazz music. His Black Totem series will be exhibited at Wynn Palace and allows the public to learn his over-20-year-long research on the language of totem. The Black Totem series composes a visual song with abstract multimedia paintings and a series of bronze sculptures.
Art masterpieces can be found in every corner of Wynn Palace. The venue’s state-of-art installations have enabled a smooth preparation process for the exhibition. “Wynn’s brand voice is characterised by four elements: a forward-looking mentality, respect for craftsmanship, elegance and attention to details,” Chen said, believing that art can help companies and professional talents excel in their lines of work and build a more harmonious social and cultural environment. “This is why Wynn is hoping to make cultural and art events to people from all walks of life through Art Macao. During the exhibition, Wynn will also invite renowned artists to share their thoughts on art with local residents and visitors in Macao. We want to promote art education through this opportunity.”
Wynn Macau has always enjoyed the reputation of not afraid of confronting challenges and having surprising spins. “Wynn Macau believes that the exhibition will bring visitors to Wynn and art lovers a great exhibition experience,” Chen concluded, expressing her high expectation for the exhibition.
